I made a small chalkboard to hang in my kitchen to write notes on. It has turned into a fun place for my husband and I to write our favorite one-liners, quotes and love notes to each other. I purchased a pre-cut, pre-routered (decorative edge) piece of wood from Michaels in their "wood" section. I painted on chalkboard paint (from a local hardware store), I stapled ribbon that matched my decor to the back and tied it in a bow. Then I purchased a chalk pen, like the ones they use in restaurants/cafe's and whaaaa-la! Instant chalkboard. You can also use a metal platter or frame and change it to a magnet board.
